DNS
From Linuxhelp Wiki
DNS (Domain Name Service) is a system that stores information on host names and domain names in a distributed database.
Every computer connected to the Internet has an IP Address, including every website. Without DNS, users would have to remember every IP address for every website that would like to visit. DNS allows for IP address to be linked with names, these names are called domainnames and hostnames. One of the most popular DNS servers on the Internet is Bind.
